Meaningful English lessons for every child with inquiry-based learning
Why I wish I’d discovered inquiry-based learning much sooner
As a teacher, I knew that my students were more engaged when I took lessons off the page. So I chose to teach without a course book. That meant spending hours searching for interesting level-appropriate materials and planning sequences of lessons. And it didn’t always work.
I realised that English was much more meaningful for my students when they could relate it to the real world.
But I needed a framework I could follow to help me:
- plan flexible learning sequences
- match the content with my learners’ interests
- introduce relevant language when needed
- foster a supportive learning environment
- focus on my students, not the materials
When I discovered inquiry-based learning, I knew it was perfect for what I wanted to achieve.
Lessons that work for ALL your young learners
Gone are the days of one-size fits all teaching that leaves some students feeling left behind while others are just switching off. Inquiry-based learning allows you to create engaging lessons that cater to the diverse needs and interests of your students.
And it empowers them to make decisions about their learning.

Hi there! I'm Michelle.
I’m an ELT teacher, materials writer and trainer. Born in not-so-sunny Stoke, I moved to Spain 25 years ago! I discovered inquiry-based learning a few years ago and haven’t looked back!

A structured learning journey with focused freedom
The inquiry cycle is a framework to guide your teaching. It’s made up of a series of stages that take learners from wondering to learning about a topic. We can teach, practice and review relevant language, at different stages.
But it’s not just the language. We can easily design projects around topics our students are learning about in other school subjects. From Geology to P.E., we can make CLIL meaningful by taking an inquiry-based approach.
On the way, students will acquire a variety of skills including collaboration, problem solving, creative thinking and digital literacy.

Why I can help you
Two decades in the classroom and one writing primary English materials for international publishers, has given me the skills to develop training and resources that work. I’ve learnt that what works best is a flexible approach – for you and for your students. And I think inquiry-based learning is that approach.
I’ve always believed that we should be creating classroom experiences that spark a passion for learning English and which empower students to become active participants in their own education. That’s why I developed my training courses and resources.
Michelle brings creativity and ideas to every project and I would recommend her for both materials development and training. Her very recent classroom experience means she knows what works with young learners and can create materials that pass on her years of teaching expertise. I think any ELT teacher would benefit from Michelle’s ideas and resources.
