The Pathway for Schools
Create an engaging and inspiring young learner programme with inquiry-based learning
Are you ready to transform your classroom?
Language teaching is a competitive world. More and more schools offer young learner classes. How can you stand out from the crowd?
With an engaging learner-centred teaching approach for students aged 6+.
That approach is inquiry-based learning. Adapt your curriculum and structure your English programme based on your learners’ interests and needs.
Introducing…
The Inspiring Inquiries Pathway for Schools
The Pathway is a completely updated version of the Inspiring Inquiries Training Pathway. This time developed specifically for schools.
The course is available in both face-to-face and online formats. It’s designed to support a variety of educators who are keen on enhancing language integration within their curriculum. It’s suitable for
✅ English coordinators at international primary schools looking to better integrate English with other subjects.
✅ Language school owners aiming to update their teaching methodologies with inquiry-based learning.
✅ Primary school teachers who wish to make English lessons more engaging and relevant.
✅ Educators in bilingual schools looking for ways to motivate and support learners with English through other subjects.
Why should we rethink our teaching approach?
It helps students
We know that one-size fits all teaching rarely works for all students. Active methodologies like inquiry-based learning raise levels of engagement among an ever-increasing number of disengaged and struggling students.
It helps teachers
An approach that is better suited to the diversity of today’s classrooms makes teaching easier and more enriching. Inquiry-based learning is a holistic approach which can be used across the curriculum, enabling departments to align English with other subjects.
Unit 1 Universal Design for Learning & inclusion
We’ll start by exploring inclusion principles and discover how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) helps create an inclusive classroom.
Unit 2 What is inquiry-based learning?
After being introduced to inquiry-based learning and its key features, teachers will discover how we can make the most of this approach in the EFL classroom.
Unit 3 Planning an inquiry
With the basics under control, we’ll explore the inquiry cycle and examine its different stages. Teachers will start to plan an inquiry for their students.
Unit 4 Carrying out an inquiry
Teachers will explore the practicalities of setting up an inquiry in the classroom and think about resources and tools that might be suitable for each stage.
Unit 5 Making thinking visible
How do we know that students are learning? Teachers will discover different strategies for documenting learning as you analyse sample inquiry materials.
Unit 6 Designing your own inquiry
Teachers will put what they’ve learned into practice as they plan an inquiry for their students, ready to use in the classroom.
Self study modules
While the focus is on inquiry-based learning, these modules include more general information about each topic as well as practical ideas to help teachers develop an inquiry-based classroom. Topics currently available include:
- The curriculum
- Differentiation
- Teaching language through inquiry
- Assessment
Under Michelle’s expert guidance, I explored different models of inquiry-based learning and developed an inquiry unit to use in the classroom. My cohort met for a live session once a week, which was a great opportunity to ask questions and to hear the ideas and perspectives of other teachers. I also learned a lot from the videos and writing activities included in the weekly homework. I really appreciated having everything in one place so I could study the material at any time.
I would recommend this course for all young learner teachers, even those who feel like they are constrained by having to use a textbook or follow a set syllabus in the school where they teach, since many aspects of this course can be applied to all types of young learner class. This type of teaching can have a wonderfully positive impact on learners especially those who don’t thrive in a more traditional classroom environment.
